Long ago (1981) in a land far away (Brooklyn) two kids (Larry & Terri) had a dream. They wanted to open a jewelry & gift store. Terri grew up working in her Mom’s jewelry store, and it was time for her to start one of her own. Both artists, Terri a fine art student and Larry a film making student, they decided the world of retail was for them. They opened a boutique in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.. Classically trained in jewelry design and repair, Terri showed Larry a couple of basic techniques and the couple was off on a road that would lead them on the journey that would become KOLE DESIGN. Going to trade shows to buy merchandise was fun, but they began to think, “Hey we could make our own line of jewelry!”. Ten years passed and it was time for a change. Moving to New Jersey, Larry & Terri started producing their original line of handmade jewelry. It was Sterling Silver with semi-precious stones, and it was beautiful. Soon after, they realized they had entered the “world of fashion” and had to keep creating new designs as the market demanded. All of a sudden, imports started to show up in the market. It was hard to compete. That’s when they started importing. Using their design skills and manufacturing knowledge came in handy. Most other importers were only business people selling a product, but they were also makers of product. That gave them an advantage. They had years of experience. Larry and Terri knew retail, design, manufacturing and import. Having this knowledge has made this long road a successful and happy one.
